This is one of the fused glass pieces I made while visiting ArtNETT Studios in college.
This was one of the first fused glass pieces I made in my grandmother's studio. After several practice rounds using scrap pieces of glass to test the temperature of the kiln and the effect it has on glass, I decided to be more purposeful with my designs.
Having just taken one of my first graphic design courses, I decided to base this fused glass piece on a series of illustrations I made in class about music. I liked the idea of having a piece that was two-sided, since so many of my grandmother's pieces weren't. I'd seen a mural while walking through Nashville of a bunch of musical instruments in a row, and I thought it would be fun to use the vitri-fusaille technique of painting on glass to make my own miniature version. I thought it was fitting to put them all on the back of the piano, since it is one of the most traditional instruments, and because you can play just about any song on piano even if it was written for something else.
