These are the graphics I designed for a faculty member of the UFGI for her scientific grant proposal.
After having been the UF Genetics Institute's designer for about a year, I decided to pilot a program where students or faculty members could request custom visuals for their projects and proposals. One of the requests was made by Dr. Yan, a faculty member who was writing a grant proposal to study the effect of a protein called IL-2 on the human immune system.
She asked that I design two graphics, and we had several zoom meetings so she could offer constructive criticism throughout the process. It was eye-opening to receive feedback from someone in the scientific community. The way colors are used as a practical tool, for example, is very different than how colors are sometimes regarded in design - with specific cultural connotations. I felt like I had stepped into a subculture of design I'd never considered.
After showing her the first drafts of the graphics, I revised them as she requested and presented these three. She was very happy with the changes I made, but was still looking for some changes to the colors I'd used.
