White Chromatic Still Life

This is one of many realism paintings I made in college.

This was the second painting project in my observational painting class. Our instructor positioned all of the objects in the scene, and we were allowed to choose our own composition. The idea was to set up the still life with objects that were mostly white, and therefore colorless, so we could better see the cool and warm tones in the light and shadows and paint the objects to reflect those colors.

These progress pictures show to progression from my first sketches to the finished canvas. The first picture is a photograph of the scene I chose to paint, cropped to the composition I chose, though we weren't allowed to work from reference photos.
